Then, we prepare the roof decking, making any repairs to the rafters and installing a light, yet strong, synthetic underlayment. Next, roofing crews install vents to improve attic ventilation and remove excess moisture and heat. Ridge vents increase a home’s energy efficiency and prevent moisture build-up that can cause structural damage. To prevent leaks, crews install roof flashing and sheathing. Flashing is installed around chimneys, vents, pipes and along hip roofs. Shingles come next, overlapped and held in place with adhesives and roofing nails.
